WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU, MAKES YOU WEAKER !!!

It is funny how people like to reason everything out! Every single incident in their life is seen as a reason that would lead to something that has a higher meaning. Something that was meant to be. They just don’t like to accept things as they are and move on. They need words to lift their spirits. And that is how the term 'Everything happens for a reason' was born. People please!!!

I burnt a toast today. It was the last piece of bread and I burnt it. Tell me how this happened for a reason. Except if the reason was perpetual starvation!

There are so many lines that absolutely make no sense to me. My absolute favourite is ‘What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.’ It is the worst lie that has been told on the face of this planet. I once had this terrible accident where I injured my leg badly. There were tissues hanging out and skin that looked like they were grated using a cheese grater. Of course it did not kill me and I survived. It has been almost 8 years since that accident, and still sometimes I feel the pain around my ankle. So no! What does not kill me, does not make me stronger! It makes me weaker.

Then there is the 'Everything is going to be all right'. What are you? An astrologer? Or are you the animal oracle ‘Paul the Octopus’ who predicted the world cup? If not, then how can you be sure that everything would be alright? Or maybe the interpretation of ‘Everything is going to be alright’ is “ I don’t know if it is going to be alright. I can only hope that it does. If it doesn’t, don’t sue me you imbecile! Life is a bitch but you are not the only one with issues. I ate a fly today, accidentally. Do you think it is going to be all right for the fly? Accept your destiny. DEAL WITH IT!”

I remember I had this classmate of mine named ‘Umapathy. Umapathy was a Tamil boy who had a dog. A dog named ‘Bhairavi’. Yes! Something made him name the dog after an avatar of Goddess Kali. Anyway, Bhairavi died after eating a lizard. Umapathy came to college with a sullen face and wept over the loss of his dear ‘Bhairavi’. With an absolutely clean intention of sharing his grief and imparting momentary solace, I touched his shoulder and told him “It is ok! Everything happens for a reason”. I think his stare burnt a hole right through the middle of my head. So much for showing some humanity.

Listen to me, I am in no way trying to bash up these lines and stamp them out of existence. I understand that these are just lines to raise one’s spirit in times of despair and that they can be used only metaphorically? But really does it make any sense? It is but a while lie to make you feel stronger than you actually are.

I know this guy who can drink like an entire bottle of vodka without any dilution in a span of half an hour. I say to him “Drink it all boy!!!!”  because what doesn’t kill him makes him stronger, unless of course he has burnt half his liver in the process, then no it did not make him stronger.

It is funny how we use certain lines as a balm to sooth the pain that life torments us with. Maybe nothing happens for a reason, maybe everything is not going to be alright and maybe what doesn’t kill you actually makes you weaker. But the only line you should actually hold on to with a death grip is “Life, it goes on.....”.

Of course if death says “Hi!!”, then No! It is mechanically impossible for life to go on.

P.S- I love making absolutely no sense!

P.P.S- If anyone of you reading this have cosmetic implants, please do not come to Kerala right now. They might just melt off your fine body. It is frigging hot!!

  3. Hahaha! Hilarious post Red. But I still believe "Everything happens for a reason, a good reason in fact!"
See ill explain, First you gave the incident of that burnt toast. Well, may be that toast had a fungus or mould contamination, and eating it would have made you sick. So in a way it was good that you had to starve for some time than vomiting for the whole day and then getting admitted in an hospital.
Second, you had an accident most probably because of your negligence, but that pain around your ankle would have made you more cautious while you do any similar thing today. So now you have become more careful and you concentrate thoroughly while doing such things. That's good in so many ways!
Third, the dog. Well may be it was good because that lizard would have contaminated any eatable in the home and then Umapathy would have suffered the same fate.
So according to me, Destiny remains, but you still can do some minor adjustments through your positive thinking and positive deeds. :)

I hit my head once (stitches and all that shiz) or maybe it was twice or thrice ... anyway it didnt kill me and now I have a thicker head so it did make me stronger... in conclusion, I do not concur with what you are saying everything does happen for a reason. But yes, life does go on... nicely said!

  13. You know when I read senseless posts, I throw a quote on my face, it's called 'This too shall pass', and pass it does.
I also presume that my senseless posts and comments come with a similar kind of disclaimer. 'Here, this might be a passing comment, who knows it might be pleasant rain, or an effing flashflood, or merely a troll'.

So, 'keep calm and read on', and write on. Oh and to refute your claim that that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, here's the proof, tadaaaaaa Click on this Red,this Youtube video could change your life perception.

I am one of the people who make all those statements you seem to be infuriated by...I genuinely believe things happen for a reason - we just don't see it at that moment...If you burnt your last piece of toast, it could be a message from the Universe to perhaps be more careful next time - thankfully, it was just toast that got burnt and nothing else.....The accident was traumatic but you still have your life intact :-)

Well, for one, flies are an excellent source of protein (or so Doctor Cooper told Penny). xD

I personally believe in destiny and fate to the extent that if you screw up majorly in life, you screw up more than just your present. So maybe, destiny exists, but if it stinks, it's probably because of all the shit that we have done in the past.

  37. Hmm.. Kubler Ross Stages of grief... ! According to it we all do Ultimately ACCEPT what has happened. Acceptance is the natural outcome of grief. It is just that the various stages may last for different duration for different types of personality.

You are right now in a state of mind which enables you to jump all the stages right to the last one and just SIMPLY ACCEPT things as they are. Which I feel is an incredible quality to posses. But, this might change with the intensity of grief you experience and then you will one of the lesser mortals who bargain instead of just accepting.

Such are the frustrating wonders of the mind. A little fluctuation of this or that chemical and every emotion is thus felt.

Why are you wasting time being a lawyer? Shouldn't you be a Self-help Guru? I'm sure there is more money to be made there. Plus, look at all the lives you will save by saving them from Lies!

  42. It must be very hot in Kerala! I could sense the frustration on the poor age old adages :D...

But "what doesn't kill you....".sounds a valid argument. If you face a tragedy once and survive, you are better equipped to face it, or at least deal with the aftermath, the next time. Similarly, "Everything....reason" also is true in a broader sense of life and Karma etc.

But forget logic, it's hot in India everywhere. We get it :D

So when there's acceptance, that's when you're stronger, as no longer can that incident harm you in any way. Or there's non acceptance when every time you face it again, it harms you mentally (and sometimes physically too).
